During the meeting, GC Acting Chair Professor Alaric Tokpa emphasized the importance of reviewing Liberia’s constitution to strengthen decentralization efforts. He assured the UNDP team that the Governance Commission is always ready to conduct assessments, monitoring, and evaluation. The GC Oversight Commissioner for the National Integrity System (NIS) Mandate Area emphasized that the decentralization program must reflect the views of local leaders. According to Mr. Kollie, the decentralization program suffered setbacks due to systemic gaps. Meanwhile, UNDP National Program Coordinator for the Liberia Decentralization Support Program, Eric Boykai, reaffirmed support for Liberia’s decentralization drive and emphasized the importance of collective input to avoid undue donor influence.
