By Naneka HoffmanMonrovia, January 29, 2026: The Office for the Establishment of War and Economic Crimes Courts (OWECC), with support from international partners, is holding discussions to determine the costs and operational requirements for establishing and operating Liberia’s proposed War and Economic Crimes Courts. Barbu made the disclosure on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, during a program reviewing the progress report of survivors and victims of the Liberian civil war. Barbu emphasized that establishing the courts is intended to send a strong message that violence and war should never be used to seek justice. Mr. Sonyah said LIMASA remains committed to supporting national efforts to ensure accountability for individuals responsible for the deaths of thousands during Liberia civil war. The program, held under the theme “Giving Voice and Visibility to Victims and Survivors,” brought together survivors, victims, and stakeholders from across the country.
