A rapidly intensifying storm system known as a “bomb cyclone” is brewing off the coast of the Southeastern United States, according to forecasters. The National Weather Service is monitoring a storm system that could impact New England towards the end of the weekend. It is too early to predict how many inches of snow Massachusetts communities might receive in a worst-case scenario, Dooley said. Forecasters say once a storm system is 24 to 48 hours away from reaching a location, they can feel confident in their predictions of which communities will be most impacted. Forecasters expect to know more about the track and potential impact of this weekend’s bomb cyclone Thursday evening or Friday morning, Dooley said.
