The Belmont High School football team will be ineligible to compete in the 2026 Massachusetts high school football playoffs. At the end of the last football season, Belmont was scheduled to play in its second non-playoff game of the fall against Revere. It’s first non-playoff game, the week before the eventually-cancelled game against Revere, came against Wayland. They were well aware of what the consequences are.”The rule making programs ineligible for the following postseason if they cancel their non-playoff game instead of taking a bye was established by the football committee in 2025. “This is why we put the rule in so people wouldn’t pull this,” football committee member and Milton football coach Steve Dembowski said.
