The owner of Stow Cafe — a popular brunch spot on Route 117 in Stow — was arrested by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents Wednesday morning, according to State Sen. Jamie Eldridge. Eldridge — a Democrat who represents the Middlesex and Worcester district — wrote in a Facebook post that he and Kate Hogan — Stow’s Democratic state representative — were assisting the family of Stow Cafe owner Max Fernandes in the wake of his arrest by federal immigration officers. The Stow Police Department acknowledged that ICE had carried out a detainment order in Stow Wednesday morning, but did not name the person who was detained in their statement. “The Stow Police Department was not involved and had no prior notification that an enforcement action was taking place,” the statement reads. “Our understanding is that the detainer was issued in response to an indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 case out of the Concord District Court.”Neither ICE, Stow Cafe, nor either of Stow’s state legislators responded to a request for comment Wednesday night.
