Amherst boys basketball capitalized on Mitchell Carey’s 32-point performance to top Minnechaug, 73-59, on Wednesday night. The Hurricanes led wire-to-wire over the Falcons, riding a 20-point second quarter to separate heading into the second half. For Amherst, Samuel Woodruff also contributed in a big way, pouring in 19 points. On the other side, Drew Grasso led Minnechaug with 18 points, including three triples. The win was an important one for Amherst, who stays ahead of Minnechaug in second place in the Valley Wheel standings, and remains just a game behind Longmeadow.
