(WLS) -- A 29-year-old Joliet man has been charged with murder in the deaths of a 4-year-old and his mother in Joliet over the weekend, police said Wednesday. Joseph D. Johnson was charged with first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of Joselynn Diaz-Garcia and her 4-year-old son Sunday, police said. Johnson remains hospitalized under police guard at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, Joliet police said. There, officers found a 29-year-old man who had suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to his ankle, police said. Outside the home, officers found the 4-year-old boy and his mother, a 36-year-old woman, unresponsive near the backyard.
