Will County man pleads guilty to hate crime, 2024 shooting of neighborJOLIET, Ill. (WLS) -- A Will County man pleaded guilty Wednesday to attempted murder and committing a hate crime in the shooting of his neighbor in 2024. John Shadbar, 72, shot his neighbor, Melissa Robertson, in her Lockport backyard in May of 2024. Prosecutors say Shadbar also used racial slurs against Robertson, whose partner and children are Black. Accompanied by family, including her two sons, Robertson left the courthouse in Joliet for what she hoped would be the last time. A GoFundMe for the Robertson family has raised over $15,000.
