The N.C. Department of Transportation is accepting applications from organizations statewide to get free bicycle helmets for children. Organizations can apply for 25, 50, 75, or 100 helmets through the Bicycle Helmet Initiative webpage. It works with communities across North Carolina to promote bicycle safety. Over the past five years, the program has given out over 85,000 free bike helmets statewide. The Integrated Mobility Division at NCDOT also engages in other projects and safety initiatives.
