WCC makes a second mistake in its rates calculations – this time, overcharging

News from Wellington City CouncilThe Wellington City Council is today apologising to ratepayers for a second mistake in the calculation of their 2025-26 rates bills; however, this second mistake means ratepayers will have to pay less than previously thought.
A review of the rates’ billing system discovered the Council has invoiced its own rates correctly, but regional council rates have been overcharged by an average of $10 per residential rate account.
Although the rates error has a small impact on the total due over the year, it is still a mistake that should not have happened.
“We are fixing the sludge levy error andthe regional council rates error in the rates invoices people will receive in the week beginning 3 February.
The Wellington City Council and Greater Wellington reviews found that the provisional 2025/26 Greater Wellington rate was added to the rating database instead of the adopted Greater Wellington rate.
