Irish architect Niall McLaughlin has been named the recipient of the 2026 Royal Gold Medal for architecture by the Royal Institute of British Architects. Williamson, who chaired this year's Royal Gold Medal jury, also praised McLaughlin for being "an outstanding role model" with a portfolio that will "transcend trends". We accept this recognition with gratitude and with a renewed commitment to live up to its challenge.”The Royal Gold Medal prize is considered one of the world's highest honours in the field. The RIBA Gold Medal will be bestowed on McLaughlin by King Charles III, and a public lecture by the architect will take place in London on 30 April 2026. Last year's Royal Gold Medal winner was SANAA.
