'Serious concerns' over Basingstoke hospital A&E as inspection finds safety breach

Inspectors reported two legal breaches in the emergency services related to “safe care and treatment” and “good governance.”It found that the environment for vulnerable patients was inadequate.
It stated that the Emergency Department could not always meet the needs of patients with mental health conditions.
This included a safe space for adults experiencing mental health distress, which opened in September 2025, and basing the Mental Health Liaison Team in the department overnight from October.
The trust has initiated measures to address these issues, including establishing additional mental health practitioner support.
