ST THOMAS, USVI — Governor Albert Bryan Jr. issued the following statement on Wednesday in response to news of arrests in an alleged Medicaid fraud scheme involving individuals connected to the Virgin Islands Department of Human Services and members of the medical community and recipients of the program. “The arrests announced involving an alleged Medicaid fraud scheme, including individuals connected to the Virgin Islands Department of Human Services and members of the medical community, are deeply troubling. I have zero tolerance for corruption, self-dealing, or anyone using public office or public programs for private gain. “I want to commend Department of Human Services Commissioner Averil George for her cooperation and her efforts to assist investigators and the Department of Justice’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. “My administration will continue to support every lawful effort to uncover wrongdoing, recover misused funds, and hold accountable anyone who violates the public trust.
