But we don’t talk about Charley Pride’s legacy of helping to integrate country music in Black History Month curriculum, do we? But unless your teachers were willing to buck the published material on Black history, country music was never mentioned. The problem is not that the historical record of country music is wrong or that it erased its Black legacy as Saving Country Music recently illustrated. And part of the reason for this is the proponents of Black History Month just did not bring up country music as part of that initiative.
