Algood Fire Department has received notice that it will receive a state grant to help pay for firefighter equipment and training.
Algood Fire Department Fire Chief David Judd said the department received a letter from the state fire marshal’s office confirming the award.
“So, yes, we received a letter from the state fire marshal’s office stating that we have received funding through the VFEET grant.
It’s the Volunteer Fire Equipment and Training program, and this is a program that helps volunteer fire departments across the state get equipment and training that we all need.”The funding will be used to replace outdated protective gear and equipment used during emergency responses.
Our helmets are $450, so when you’re outfitting every firefighter, that really adds up really fast.”The grant can also be used for other equipment purchases and approved training initiatives.
