English Heritage has announced plans to install nine new blue plaques across London, celebrating figures who made outstanding contributions in fields ranging from literature to astronomy.
Matt Thompson, curatorial director at English Heritage, said: "This year’s new plaques represent an astonishing range of achievement – from scientific discovery and artistic innovation to activism and political campaigning.
Also being honoured is Kamal Chunchie, an anti-racism activist known for his work supporting black and Asian communities in London, particularly in the area of housing.
English Heritage says the exact locations of the plaques are subject to approval from the properties where they will be installed.
Additionally, at least one building in Greater London in which they lived or worked should survive with a substantially unaltered exterior.
