An Australian medical expert has shed light on why two men hailed as heroes of the Bondi attack later travelled overseas for treatment of their gunshot wounds.
Ahmed Al Ahmed and Gefen Bitton were among 40 people injured when father and son Sajid and Naveed Akram allegedly opened fire at Archer Park on December 14.
Al Ahmed, 43, jumped from behind a parked car and wrestled a gun from Sajid, choosing not to shoot him.
Bitton rushed to the side of Ahmed Al Ahmed as he tried to disarm the gunman.
“Experience is generally highly concentrated in trauma teams and hospitals that receive the bulk of penetrating trauma injuries,” he said.
