Four people were arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents Saturday following reports of “suspicious activity” at an ATM in Calais, authorities said in a statement Wednesday. The four people left the Machias Savings Bank in Calais in a Toyota RAV4 and were pulled over by Border Patrol agents on Route 9 in Crawford, according to a news release from CBP. CBP did not say what kind of “suspicious activity” was reported. The four were processed for immigration violations, according to CBP, and are being transferred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s removal division. The news release did not provide the names and nationalities of the four people arrested, and a CBP spokesperson did not immediately respond to an inquiry for that information Wednesday afternoon.
