Los Angeles County firefighters fought a blaze at a commercial building on the 2200 block of North Tyler Avenue in South El Monte on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 28, and nearby residents were advised to shelter in place for hours because of the hazardous conditions. The shelter in place advisory was eventually canceled around 10 p.m. Crews arrived on scene to the fire around 2:30 p.m. and continued to fight the flames on Wednesday evening, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. A shelter-in-place order was in place Wednesday afternoon in the surrounding area, Navarre said, as firefighters worked to put out the fire. The shelter in place area was expanded Wednesday evening as the direction of the smoke changed, but the advisory was eventually lifted around 10 p.m.
