A Comnmerce Police officer made a traffic stop Tuesday on a vehicle without license plates and discovered the driver had a suspended license, no insurance, copious amounts of drug paraphernalia, and a gun with the serial number scratched off. THe vehicle was towed and the driver is facing charges for possessing a defaced firearm, drug paraphernalia, and the traffic violations. This is exactly why we crack down on expired registration– not because we want to stick it to drivers who are following the rest of the laws (if you are, we often give just a warning to update your tabs). All too often no plates or expired plates are accompanied by other much more serious violations.
