Middlesbrough Council seeks new volunteers to work out how much money to give councillorsTwo voluntary positions are up for grabs, but Middlesbrough councillors can reject the recommendationsGeneric UK notes and coinsMiddlesbrough Council is seeking new recruits for a board that works out how much cash councillors should receive.
The independent remuneration panel is made up of volunteers who devise recommendations for the amount of money that councillors in Middlesbrough should receive annually.
Over autumn 2025, Middlesbrough councillors repeatedly failed to accept a recommended pay rise that would have seen their annual take home increase by nearly £1,400 for 2025/26.
Had the proposals been accepted, this would have seen councillors in Middlesbrough receive the Teesside average of £8,999 a year.
Factors that stop potential recruits from getting the gig include being an employee of Middlesbrough Council.
