Shirley Raines, a TikTok creator widely known as “Miss Shirley” for her volunteer work with homeless communities in Los Angeles, has died at the age of 58, her nonprofit organization “Beauty 2 the Streetz” announced on Wednesday. Raines had more than five million people on TikTok, where she shared videos of her outreach work. In 2021, Raines was named CNN Hero of the Year and received USD 100,000 to expand her charitable efforts. She described her community work as “a source of purpose” that helped her cope with grief and hardship. Beauty 2 the Streetz said Raines’ legacy will continue through the programs she established and the people she helped over the years.
