Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, said Wednesday he will pursue legal action over what he described as a coordinated defamation campaign targeting him, his family, and his public office. In a public statement on Instagram, Bensaid said that false allegations circulating on social media and certain websites were entirely fabricated. However, the story was subsequently amplified on social media, with some accounts explicitly accusing Bensaid of criminal involvement without citing evidence. Bensaid rejected the allegations as “fake news,” saying they seriously harm his personal reputation and the dignity of his family. Bensaid added that his legal action seeks primarily to repair his reputation and that any damages he may seek will be merely symbolic.
