The African Football Confederation (CAF) imposed a series of disciplinary sanctions on the football federations of Senegal and Morocco, as well as several players and officials on Wednesday night, following “unacceptable scenes” during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final. A penalty awarded to Morocco in the Jan. 18 final led Senegal’s players to leave the field, pausing the match for more than 10 minutes. Senegalese players Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr were each suspended for two official CAF matches for unsporting behavior toward the referee. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) was fined USD 200,000 for inappropriate behavior by the stadium’s ball boys during the match. A further USD 15,000 fine was imposed for the use of lasers by supporters during the match.
