Los Angeles County firefighters fought a blaze at a commercial building on the 2200 block of North Tyler Avenue in South El Monte on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 28, and nearby residents were advised to shelter in place because of the hazardous conditions. The building houses P&T Metals, a scrap metal processing and recycling center. Crews arrived on scene to the fire around 2:30 p.m. and continued to fight the flames on Wednesday evening, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. A shelter-in-place order was in place Wednesday afternoon in the surrounding area, he said, as firefighters defended nearby buildings and worked to put out the fire. Residents can check the boundaries of the order on Protect Genasys maps.
