Byron Sigcho-Lopez (25th) announced Wednesday that he’s running for Congress as an independent Democratic Socialist. The alderman joins independent candidate Mayra Macias against the only registered Democratic candidate, Patty Garcia, chief of staff for the outgoing Fourth District U.S. Rep. Jesus “Chuy” Garcia. Sigcho-Lopez did not say whether his bid for Congress means he will not be vying for a third term as 25th Ward alderman.
