Dear Editor,Last March, more than 86% of Burlington residents voted to ban guns from bars because of the sensible and simple belief that guns and alcohol do not mix. The city’s voters believe the passage of this bill will help keep our downtown safer for those who work in and visit Burlington. People who live far from Burlington may not realize how important we believe this charter change is, but it could very well save lives. This charter change is one important step in a broader effort to keep Vermont communities safe. These measures reflect what most Vermonters already believe — that gun safety and gun rights can, and must, coexist.
