When I heard that Belize is launching a national plan to plant one million trees, I honestly smiled and thought, yes… this is the kind of news we need more of. The Government of Belize, through the Ministry of Sustainable Development and the Forest Department, just announced the Greening Belize Initiative, a long-term program that aims to plant one million trees across the country by 2035. Trees help cool our communities, protect our soil, reduce flooding, improve air quality, and provide habitat for wildlife. They even launched a Greening Belize App, which will help track where trees are planted, how they’re doing, and how the whole country can stay involved. One million trees may sound like a big number, but when a whole country commits to something positive, powerful things can happen.
