Former Gordo head coach Gus Smith has been hired to try to restore the tradition-rich football program at Blount High School. “It’s certainly one of those schools where you are extremely honored to be the head coach,” Smith told AL.com. “We are going to get them in the weight room and get back to playing Blount football. It will be a great challenge, one I’m looking forward to.”Smith replaces Ramon Nelson as Blount’s head coach. “We are super excited to start this era of Blount football,” principal Jerome Woods said.
