The Alabaster YMCA will close at the end of May 2026, ending years of service to the community, according to a statement from the YMCA of Greater Birmingham. The YMCA said ongoing financial losses driven by rising operating costs and long-term revenue declines, as well as major maintenance and repair needs are the reason for the branch’s closure. “After a comprehensive review of long-term facility needs, financial sustainability, and program utilization, the YMCA of Greater Birmingham has made the difficult decision to close the Alabaster YMCA at the end of May 2026,” the statement reads. “Despite significant cost-saving measures, these challenges have continued to grow, making continued operation unsustainable.”After serving Alabaster residents in an older facility for nearly 40 years, the Alabaster YMCA was established in response to growing community needs. “We are grateful for the generations of families, staff, and volunteers who have brought this branch to life,” the statement reads.
