SANTA MONICA—On Monday, January 27, the Santa Monica Police Department performed a pair of routine traffic stops, which ended with a pair of gun busts. According to the Santa Monica Police Department, the stop began as a routine law enforcement action but escalated once weapons were discovered. Drivers in both traffic stops were detained on weapons-related charges. One of the traffic stops resulted in a high-capacity magazine being discovered by police. The SMPD did not release the names of the officers who conducted the busts or the names of the drivers who were arrested.
