An 80-year-old man has been arrested after a 95-year-old woman was tied up and threatened during an attempted robbery in Salford after being asked about bin collection day, police said. He was disturbed when another woman who knew the victim arrived at the property and confronted the robber, who fled the scene. Greater Manchester police (GMP) said officers attended an address on Manchester Road, Worsley, on Wednesday and arrested a suspect on suspicion of attempted robbery and false imprisonment. Det Insp Paul Davies, from GMP’s Salford district, said on Tuesday: “This was a vile incident in which a woman was tied up and threatened. “Thankfully, this was not a more serious situation and we commend the brave actions of the lady’s friend who confronted the man and called officers.”
