The Nigeria Police Force says it has uncovered and dismantled a cyber-enabled fraud syndicate responsible for the illegal diversion of a telecommunications company’s airtime and data resources, resulting in losses estimated at over ₦7.7 billion. The police said investigations revealed that internal staff login credentials were compromised, allowing the suspects unlawful access to the company’s core infrastructure. Six suspects — Ahmad Bala, Karibu Mohammed Shehu, Umar Habib, Obinna Ananaba, Ibrahim Shehu and Masa’ud Sa’ad — were arrested during the operations. The force said substantial sums of money traced to the suspects’ bank accounts were also recovered. The police added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
