HAZLETON — The Hazleton City Council voted to return a right-of-way easement back to the developer at their meeting Tuesday at City Hall. A resolution was passed to name a newly constructed private street South Powell Drive, directly across from Powell Drive and south of Arthur Gardner Highway. Council also voted to sell and remove used city vehicles including several old trucks which Mayor Jeff Cusat says have deteriorated. Tony Ryba of Government Consulting Strategies spoke to council about being able to save the city money on electricity fees. Hazleton City Firefighters Local 507 Union President Shawn McArdle expressed his dissatisfaction to council over the lack of hirings which he says puts public safety at risk.
