Tensions flared today at Mvara Secondary School in Arua City as youths from Northern Uganda protested the ongoing election of their Youth Member of Parliament, citing delayed accreditation and facilitation. The election, featuring NRM’s Elma Kapel Challa, UPC’s Wacha Elizabeth Shakira, and DP’s Amollo Elizabeth, has drawn delegates from the Lango, Karamoja, Acholi, and West Nile sub-regions. Protesters claim they were promised UGX 600,000 each by the Electoral Commission but did not receive the funds, leaving many without food or accommodation. Despite the unrest, voting commenced after allowances were cleared and accreditation completed, with the casting of ballots now underway.
