In a renewed effort to protect public health and curb the growing threat of drug abuse, large quantities of illicit narcotic substances have been destroyed in the Ashanti Region. The drugs made up of high-dose tramadol, popularly known as “Red,” and marijuana were burned at the Kaase Landfill Site under the supervision of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA). The consignment included tramadol in dosages ranging from 50 milligrams to as high as 225 milligrams, with particularly large quantities of the 150-milligram variant. According to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the substances were seized during a series of intelligence-led operations carried out over the past two years. He noted that these interventions have produced encouraging results and reaffirmed the police administration’s commitment to intensifying the fight against the sale and distribution of illicit drugs across the Ashanti Region.
