After the December announcement, health authorities in parts of Asia had tightened airport surveillance and screening procedures for passengers coming from India to prevent potential cross-border spread. Nipah is a zoonotic virus first identified during an outbreak in Malaysia in the 1990s. There is no vaccine for Nipah.
