The Doudna Fine Arts Center hosted guest cellist Joshua Roman’s “Immunity” program on Saturday in the recital hall. At his performances, he talks about his experience with long COVID-19 and the several life-changing difficulties he must deal with. Several times on Saturday, the audience sang or hummed while Roman was performing, like when he sang “Hallelujah,” many in the crowd sang with him. Guzman learned about Roman’s struggles with long COVID-19 and about how he had almost lost his passion for music. Daiva Markelis, a retired EIU English professor, said she loved when Roman talked about the struggle of perfectionism that is experienced by many people when making their life’s work.
