Working alongside the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers crews are installing emergency power generators across Mississippi to support communities impacted by the January 2026 winter storm. Shortly after midnight, USACE temporary emergency power teams completed the first generator installation at a warming shelter and emergency services facility in New Albany. The installation marked the beginning of a broader emergency power mission aimed at restoring critical services to storm-affected areas. Additional generator installations are being prepared as directed by MEMA and FEMA to assist critical public facilities in impacted communities. Emergency power teams were positioned at FEMA staging areas ahead of the storm to allow for rapid deployment.
