Traffic has been stopped on portions of Interstate 55 and Interstate 22 due to nearly impassable icy road conditions, Mississippi Public Safety officials said Wednesday afternoon. Northbound traffic on Interstate 55 is being held at Exit 227 near Highway 32 in Oakland, while westbound traffic on Interstate 22 is stopped at Exit 37 near Lake Center. The closures are necessary to keep the roadways clear so Mississippi Department of Transportation crews can safely remove ice and work to improve driving conditions.
