Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MP Michael Barrett says his Conservative Party supports increasing the amount of money Canadians will receive through the GST credit.
Earlier this week, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that new legislation will increase the GST credit by 25 per cent for the next five years, with a one-time 50 per cent increase this year.
Barrett says his party will support it, and not introduce any amendments that could potentially slow it down, when it’s brought to Parliament Hill because he says it provides some help to some people.
However, he adds that it’s not as far as they’d like to go when it comes to providing relief for Canadians.
Barrett tells Moose FM that he wants to see people end the year in a better position then when they started it.
