Crime Stoppers, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting public safety by facilitating anonymous tips to law enforcement, is marking its 50th anniversary this year with its first program launched in Albuquerque New Mexico in 1976.
The public can call Crime Stoppers toll-free telephone number, 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) anywhere in North America to report crimes or information they have unanimously and the service will then pass it on to the relevant police agency to investigate.
In our region, tips to Crime Stoppers have resulted in over 5,000 arrests since the local service was launched in 1985.
Richard McMullen is the President of the National Capital Area Crime Stoppers and he tells Moose FM that the service plays a vital role.
I think that’s going to be projected into the future, hopefully for another fifty years.”Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization that runs partly on donations and funds raised through events including golf tournaments.
