An iconic Canadian retailer of the past is looking at expansion plans across the country. This after the successful launch of Zellers’ first stand-alone store in Edmonton last October. The company says it’s actively pursuing new leasing opportunities across Canada as part of a phased national expansion strategy, with a focus on every major Canadian market. “Launching our first store exceeded our expectations in every way,” says Joey Benitah, Chief Operating Officer of Zellers. Thirteen years ago, Target opened in the former Zellers on Algonquin in North Bay, before that store was shuttered a couple years later.
