The Mayor of Minden Hills has used the powers provided to him through the Strong Mayors Act to veto eight amendments to the Township’s proposed 2026 budget. During a meeting on Jan. 6, council approved more than 25 amendments to the proposed budget originally approved on Dec. 15. In a statement, Mayor Bob Carter said many of these adjustments were to include costs that were unknown or unavailable at the time the proposed budget received council approval. These powers gave the mayor the responsibility of proposing the municipal budget, subject to council amendments, and introduced a separate mayoral veto and council override process. All eight of the vetoed amendments can be found on the municipality’s website.
