Lakelands Public Health has issued a cold warning for the region, including the County of Haliburton, with temperatures are expected to reach -35C with windchill overnight Jan. 23. According to officials, the bitter cold temperatures, which are expected to last through the weekend, will create conditions that significantly increase the risk of frostbite and hypothermia. Local health officials say it is important to recognize the signs of cold-related illness. “Extreme cold weather is more than just uncomfortable, it can be dangerous, even life-threatening,” said Julie Bromley, Manager, Emergency Services & Healthy Environments with Lakelands Public Health.
