Minden Hills Council will hold a special meeting on Jan. 29 to discuss Mayor Bob Carter’s decision to veto eight council-approved amendments to the Township’s proposed 2026 budget. Council is proposing overrides to the eight veto decisions made by Carter, which were posted publicly on Jan. 16. During a meeting on Jan. 6, council approved more than 25 amendments to the proposed budget originally approved on Dec. 15. He also vetoed an amendment to remove the $150,000 purchase of a bulldozer from the capital budget, stating that renting a bulldozer is not practical given the frequent operational demands. These powers gave the mayor the responsibility of proposing the municipal budget, subject to council amendments, and introduced a separate mayoral veto and council override process.
