Bonnyville RCMP are urging residents to stop leaving vehicles idling and unattended while the keys are inside as colder weather sets in. “During colder months, it may be tempting to run the vehicle for a period to warm it up, but the presence of the vehicle’s keys make it an easy target for theft,” reads the RCMP release. Staff Sergeant Alex Popp said members will be speaking with drivers they see leaving vehicles running while unattended. RCMP emphasize that it only takes seconds for a thief to drive away in an unlocked, idling vehicle. Drivers are also reminded that using a block heater can help warm u a vehicle more quickly without risking theft.
