Perth OPP have arrested a Listowel resident for impaired driving after they spotted the 31-year-old behind the wheel with a handheld device on Wednesday morning. Further investigation revealed the driver to be impaired with open alcohol containers in the vehicle. Criminal charges include operation while impaired and dangerous operation as well as the Highway Traffic Act offence of driving with a handheld communication device, and driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available, contrary to the Liquor License Control Act. A 90-day driver’s license suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment have been implemented. The matter will be addressed at Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on Feb. 23.
