The city’s warming centre is half full most nights, according to Stratford Mayor Martin Ritsma.
Ritsma said he has received concerning calls about the United Way Perth-Huron’s Stratford Connection Centre at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, which started overnight hours of 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. in mid-December.
The reality is it is not full.”Ritsma said the warming centre is starting to see individuals coming from other communities, noting Huron County, London, and the GTA.
“The main thrust is supporting people from our community.”Ritsma said data gathered at the connection centre will be used to determine which individuals can’t find permanent shelter in the city.
The mayor said he continues to support a permanent supportive housing model to address homelessness in the community.
