He stressed that the National Assembly, constitutionally empowered to play a role in national security and foreign military engagements, was not consulted. In response, Senate President Godswill Akpabio confirmed that arrangements are being made to brief senators in a closed session. The briefing had been postponed due to the suspension of legislative activities following the death of Senator Godiya Akwashiki on December 31, 2025. The U.S. air strikes, carried out in coordination with Nigerian authorities, targeted camps linked to the Islamic State group.
